RFTA’s Destination 2040 plan was developed over the course of two years through local government and community outreach. The program seeks to reduce congestion, improve mobility, increase service, provide trail maintenance, and make safety and environmental improvements. The money raised will replace obsolete buses with more efficient and environmentally sustainable equipment; increase evening, night and weekend service during winter and summer seasons and weekdays in the off-season; construct and maintain multi-use trails; and increase safety and mobility throughout the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys.
RFTA’s bus fleet is aging and replacements will be necessary in the near future. Without the approval of this measure, RFTA will likely reduce regional services by as much as 20 percent in just the next few years in order to address these bus replacements. In addition, projected population, employment growth and housing development in the region will continue to place more demands on our limited roadways and RFTA’s services.
